The RTU can act as data concentrator, to provide data to the master station, of various local equipments. The RTU communicates with the local Energy Meters, relays and other IEDs over serial port and transfers the data to the master station on a pre-configured protocol. The RTU can communicate with local devices using MODBUS,
DNP 3.0, IEC 60870-103 etc.
The RTU also has inbuilt persistent storage for storing cyclic data logs consisting of digital and analog points. The RTU can be configured to store time-stamped data at specified intervals for the specified points to one or more data logs. This data can then be transferred to a PC via the RTU configuration tool or to a master station over the communication protocol.
The RTU has a reserved space of 4MB for this purpose.
