The failure of a floating roof on large storage tanks has been stated as being caused by the
following:
- Fire or explosion due to hydrocarbon accumulation on roof;
- Roof sinking caused by rain water accumulation;
- Overfilling;
- Leaky pontoon;
- Roof misalignment.
