Gamma Ray Densiometer Principle

  • Use of gamma rays is non- destructive methods commonly referred as Radiation Attenuation Densiometer (RAD), used in Nuclear & Oilfield industries.
  • A radioactive source induces Compton scattered beam, and rays are attenuated by fluid of certain density.

Advantages:

  • Relatively inexpensive
  • Non-intrusive
  • Portable

Disadvantages:

  • Errors due to geometry
  • Increasing thickness of pipe as gamma rays are used.
  • Isolation against radioactive source
