Valves are of following types

Valves are of following types

  1. Control Valve

  2. Isolation or Shutdown Valves

  3. Breather Valves

  4. Pressure Safety Valve (PSV)

  5. Pressure Reducing Valve(PRV)

  6. Choke Valve

  7. Subsurface Safety Valve (SSSV)

  8. Surface Controlled Sub-Surface Safety Valve (SCSSV)

Control Valves

Valve used to regulate the process by varying the flow of process through it by change of opening in it is termed as control valve

Isolation valve

Valve which are intended for use for shutdown in case of emergency or normal operation of maintenance are called Isolation/Shutdown valve. They are also sometimes referred as Actuated On/Off valves as the whole intend behind it use is to shutdown or open the process

Beside various process Design and Operation parameters working on valves following thing need to be taken care:-

  • Valve body material:- Material selected should be so that it should better or equal to the line material and should be able to handle corrosion errosion if any due to process or arising due to differential created

  • Failure Position:- Fail position are the position at which valve should attain when their is failure of signal/power/pneumatic supply. This is generally shown on P&ID or given by Process people.

  • Handwheel Requirment:- Handwheel is manual Operation mode device which is required for emergency services or bypass line services. This is also generally defined by Process people.

  • Valve Connection:- Special care should be taken for inline instruments such valves etc. Since these valves can be

    • Flanged

    • Double Flanged

    • Wafer Type

    • Welded

  • Valve Actuators:-
