A latching electromechanical relay maintains its position after it gets actuated. It remains in its last position when the drive is removed. Latching relay is useful where power consumption must be limited as it does not require power once actuated to maintain its position.
In one coil latching, the direction of current flow in the coil determines the position of the contacts.
