What is Front End Engineering Design (FEED)?

Front End Engineering Design (FEED): An intermediate phase in the project implementation process, consisting in the development of a selected number of engineering activities (e.g.: Process Control System, Main Electrical One Line Diagram, Mechanical Design of Pressure Vessels, Overall and Detailed Plot Plan, Underground System Mayor Layout, etc.), the purpose of which is to better define the project (and, in particular, the cost estimate) before the go-ahead authorization.

The deliverables produced in this phase are usually included in the Bid Package issued for inquiry in connection with the selection of the EPC Contractor, and have a limit due to unavailability of all the info relating to the equipment engineered by the manufacturers (e.g. machinery, heaters, boilers, etc.).
